August Fishing Report

Trout fishing for Browns, Lakers and Steelhead has remained exceptional this year, especially of the lighthouse on the finger.  Limit catches so far this year have been the norm….not the exception.

We recently took 4th place in the local derby the last week of July.  Bucky” won a fabulous Labatt refrigerator, and a Okuma Rod and Reel worth thousands! J

Over the weekend the strong south and south / southeast winds have pushed the salmon into the trench.  Yesterday (8/15/10) the trench was full of fish from the pump house all the way up to the lighthouse.  Flasher flys were best trolling very slow.

Below are some of our customers with there catches.  I like seeing everyone come back year after year with me, and even the new faces.  It’s been a blast!!

NOW LETS GO RIP SOME LIPS and catch some SALMON!

Mid July

Fishing has been very steady the last few weeks.  The trout fishing remains very good!  The “mature” salmon are getting hard to come by.  A lot of juevinule / jacks being caught but not the nice large Kings we were catching just a few weeks ago.  A lot of bait in the area I’m fishing.  I just think it will be a matter of time before the big salmon find this bait and the bite will be on again!!

Most fish are coming off the lighthouse and the haystack in 150 – 110 feet of water.  Spoons in both Warriors, Stingers and NK’s are all working!

Early July

Had several parties over the past weekend from Modular Comfort Systems, and Dominic (Nick) Avetalla.  All parties experienced some great fishing for trout and salmon.  A lot of Rod action!!

You know what they say….a picture is worth a million words.  And yes we are still catching steelhead as well!!  Most of the action was off the wall in front of the Stoney Point lighthouse in 110 – 140 feet of water.  There is a lot of bait here as well.

Quickie Report

Went out this past Monday with Mark and Ralph.  The wind and waves had calmed down from the previous weeks “Blow”.  Did not know what to expect as far as the thermocline, or fish after the blow.  We did managed a few fish and yes the steelhead were still there…a little scattered, but there none the less.

The FIGHT

The Reward!

Late June / Early July

Sorry no pics!!

Just a quick report!!  The KINGS have arrived!!  We are regularly picking up Salmon now in some of our deeper “Haunts” off the St. Point light house.  Thermocline is solid down 55 – 65 feet down.

A very special treat is the fabulous steelhead fishing we have been experiencing!!  Many boats are coming in with limit catches.  Please remember though to release as many of these back to the lake as possible so we enjoy them another day!  There acrobatics are second to none!!  What a BLAST.

Mid June update

Fishing over this past weekend was good.  We enjoyed a beautiful day with our New Jersey and Pennsylvania friends.  We ended up limiting out on bass by 2:30 PM.  Most of the fish came around Stoney and Gallo Islands in 5 – 20 feet of water.  Brown jigs and chartreuse Rapalas (J-11) were the best.

On fathers day we tested our luck first thing in the AM in 250 + feet of water looking for kings.  A very solid thermocline was down 50’ with fish in and below the ‘Cline.  Saw some very nice marks but no takers.. We tried everything from spoons to flies, divers, copper and lead core rigs.

We decided to go up onto the finger off the lighthouse for some trout.  We ended up catching a few nice trout before having to call it a day.

Hopefully the summer salmon fishing will start up any time now!

Memorial Day Weekend

Great weekend for fishing!!!

Couldn’t ask for better lake conditions.  We went Walleye fishing up into Chaumont Bay.  Caught a lot of fish but no walleyes…thats the way it goes sometimes.  We even caught some browns in Guffins Bay.

Went DEEEEP with good friend Joe Cannon.  Lakers were the order of the day.  They were coming off the bottom in 130 – 140 feet of water on cowbells and “Bumble Bee” spin-n-glows.  Nice to see these fish back in the mix for us!!!  Went out deeper…saw a lot of suspended fish anywhere between 60 feet to 130 feet….salmon???   They should hopefully be showing up here anytime now in some of the deeper areas offshore.  As many of you know that have fished with me year in a year out our Summer Salmon Fishing can be the hottest bite in the lake……surpassing EVEN the late summer salmon fishing everyone is familiar with.

Spring Fishing Report ……So Far

Brown trout fishing this spring has been steady this year along the “Sands” between Stoney Creek and Montario Point.  Most fish are coming between 5 – 10 feet of water on natural patterned stick baits.  Black and silver older style thunder sticks seem to be working the best.

Due to the wind we have had from time to time and the low water conditions there seems to be a lot of “Moss” floating around on the surface fouling lines.  Also, the blows had caused some in consistent temps along the shorelines.

On May 1 & 2 we ran into some of the nicest weather of the year so far,,,however a combination of a recent blow the earlier week the above scenario caused the brown trout to shut down on us over the weekend. We rally fished HARD for the few fish we did catch!!  Many thanks to good friend Mike McMannis who stuck it out with us through the gnats and everything!!

We did not fish Walleyes during the opener.  However we spoke to some of our friends that indicated a few were caught Saturday up in the Black River, however they shut down Sunday.

Let’s hope we get some stable weather here so the fishing can get back on track!!
